Fire Safety signs are up

As you are walking and exploring the Peaks Island Land Preserve, you may be seeing signs recently displayed for the the purpose of reporting a fire. Please note that these are not trail markers; they are to be used for contacting the Portland Fire Department to report a fire, campfires, illegal camping or a medical emergency. PILP has worked closely with the Fire Department and Police to ensure that locating a specific area of PILP for a quick response will be now be possible. Each color on these signs denote a PILP parcel and the number on the sign further specifies where in that area the emergency is. If you are calling in a fire, look for the closest sign and let the dispatcher who answers know that you are calling from Peaks Island Land Preserve property and the emergency is at "blue diamond fire zone 1". There are 4 fire zone areas (blue, green, red and black) and each fire zone area (color) is further divided into 3 numberical areas (1, 2 or 3). The signs look like this:

The black and green markers are in Parker Preserve, the red and bliue markers are in the 100 Acre Woods. Please help us protect our island from fire danger. Remember that camping, camp fires and motorized vehicles are not permitted on PILP properties. Thank you and enjoy your time hiking, exploring and observing nature on your PILP trails!
